Our sow Charlotte, is very smart. It has been very cold this week, so one day we were filling her small shed with hay. My sister saw her coming from the back side of the large paddock, carrying a medium-sized branch with leaves.
She carefully placed it in her shed (which she shares with our boar, Piggly) and returned to get another one. It was so hilarious watching her build their bed for the cold! We couldn't stop laughing. She was very grateful when we put hay in there for them! She and Piggly fixed up their beds for the cold night ahead.

This is a young great horned owl. This owl and its siblings had moved out of the nest and were "branching." The young owls seemed very curious about the other wildlife in the area, and when I took this photo, some songbirds were flying by, and I think the owl was turning its head to watch them.
On a different day, when the owls were a bit younger, I found one of the owls lying on its back in a tree, eyes open and not moving. I thought something horrible had happened to it. Then the owl moved. I realized it was just trying to get a good look at the sky.

This Great Horned Owl must have known it was my kids first time taking photos with me. It was vary calm and let me and the kids photograph it for about 45 minutes. It flew and landed about 10 feet from my son and daughter and let them take several pictures. It was a great day and a memory I will never forget.

A majestic elephant grazes peacefully on a lush, green hillside in Chiang Mai Thailand. Its large ears and trunk are prominent as it enjoys the foliage around it.
Yes there were many people laughing and having fun feeding bananas to the elephant. Just behind the scenes and not on the way.

As a young boy, I enjoyed camping trips with my family during summer vacations. But then the Army sent me to Vietnam soon after my 19th birthday and camping took on a whole new meaning. Our squad of 10 men would venture out into the hills, rivers and rice paddies to stay for a few days, looking for signs of where the enemy might be or had been. We would set up small temporary camps mainly for some protection from the hot sun and to get a little rest. Then we could stay awake all night. Two guys could put their ponchos together and with a couple of sticks make a fairly decent tent. With my Army Scout Dog Heidi joining us, it actually became a "Pup Tent". I can laugh now, but way back then it really wasn't my idea of having fun when I went on ... A Vietnam Camping Trip.

I don't have a photo of him and I hope that a drawing will be ok
In the 1980's I was living in a fifth floor walk-up and cat showed up at my door one cold
winter day in Chicago. I invited him in and he stayed with me and my two cat companions,
Taylor and Kotchia until the spring thaw, and then he just left... no goodbye, no note, not a word,
I was saddened. However, I did find a dead mouse on the door step. I assumed it was from him.
He never told me his name but I called him Rebate and when I did, he gave me
a look that I think said; "Really... well... ok I'm cool with that".

I captured a Green Heron with a frog at Bunks Pond - Kinder Farm Park in Millersville Maryland. There seems to be something else attached to the frog. The only thing I can think it might be is a leach.
Thanks everyone who also shared your story. A bit of story almost always helps to entertain the viewer!

Great stories and images everyone!
Brian, what an awesome photo! To me, it looks like the heron has a frog and a small fish at the same time!

Elephants are playing and having mud or dust bath in Chiang Mai Thailand.
Two elephants stand in a lush green field with a contrasting reddish-brown hillside in the background. The younger elephant playfully touches the older one with its trunk.
They are throwing mud on each other and themselves.

Great picture, Gaby!
I like the gator, Rudy.
That's so funny Tony! Great capture!
I have always wanted to take a really good photo of a hummingbird. Last summer I stood outside near our hummingbird feeder, hoping for a good shot. Several female Ruby-throated hummingbirds flew around but one female was chasing them away from the feeder. I was lucky when she stopped to rest on this branch after chasing the others away.

I've learned a few things becauase of these stories. I had no idea gators ate insects, or that pigs use tools.
Hannah, that hummingbird pic is pretty good. They're such beautiful birds.
Ed Meredith, your cat story is heartwarming. Even though he left he probably was very grateful.
Mike, both of those kitties are so beautiful. Simon had a very nice fur pattern, and Kitty Girl has a lovely "scarf" and a sweet gaze.
Michael, that's a great owl picture. The snow adds to the image's beauty.

I go on hikes alone where hardly anyone else. During this hike on a dirt uphill road,
this little dog was startled as I walk by , just sit down and keep looking at me and turn and look at the entrance of the house back and forth , no bark no movement.
On the hike to chorrera waterfall in Bogota Colombia. I took the photo and the dog was still shocked frozen and stayed at the same position. I Had to laugh and kept on going.

My day job was in a retail environment and the store 'greeter' was Rascal the cat. One day he came across a green and yellow snake. He sure looks bewildered, doesn't he? Sadly, Rascal is no longer with us. But, he really did greet the customers, was kind to the children, and observed everything from his spot on the counter.
Great stories and pictures everyone!

I was hiking in a local park last summer just after sunrise and happened upon this scene, a magpie on a metal post in a field of thistles. It makes a very nice photo even though the magpie isn't everyone's favorite bird nor are thistles anyone's favorite plant and the post doesn't exactly fit well into a nature scene. Ah well...

I was at Shark Valley in the Everglades and embarked on a narrow trail off the beaten path, The trail is very narrow and on the left there is a deep swamp and on the right water, On my way back a gator positioned itself right on the path making it impossible to get around it unless I jumped over it, This happened 2 times at Shark Valley, The first time it occurred a ranger happened by and came in and scared it off, The second time I was not so lucky,,no-one was around. ,It was up to me! I posted a video of this on FB. Here is a link :https://www.facebook.com/Judith.Smith101/videos/644233920118470
Spoiler alert. The video does not show the outcome so I will convey the ending, I located a large palm branch and was going to scare it off with that but as I dragged the branch along the path it scared the gator off, Now whenever I embark on this path I take a long stick with me for protection,

Can you see the bird? It blended in very nicely.
The bird flew in to shrubs and I was looking where is it, but didn't find the bird nor did see the bird flying out..lo and be hold, I found the bird was camouflage in a little branch and eating little fruits. It was Very hard to spot.
In San Cipriano Colombia at the nature reserve a small bird with a light yellow and brown plumage perches amid lush green foliage. It is surrounded by clusters of dark red berries and vibrant leaves.

This animals forum seems to be sleeping, so I thought maybe an artificial animal may wake up the rest of the animals. Lol
A large, detailed sculpture of an iguana rests atop a rock surrounded by lush greenery. Sunlight filters through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the iguana's textured surface in a national park in San Gil, Colombia.
